The word ‘Titan’ brings to mind the Titans in Greek mythology – giant, powerful deities, whose name in the modern era is synonymous with strength and muscle. Whether or not this influenced the naming of Australian company Titan Lifting Technologies, it remains appropriate nonetheless, as the local manufacturer is renowned for its robust stainless steel rigging equipment as well as other products within their range.
According to BSC Product Manager David Malthouse, the Titan precision Stainless Steel gear has a wide range of applications in the food and agricultural industries, and he is enthusiastic about the recent addition of these products to the BSC portfolio. One example he provides is the suitability of the Titan rigging gear to fishing applications.
“Lots of companies use galvanised rigging wire, but the Titan products are specifically stainless steel. Over time, galvanising will degrade and corrode, but stainless steel will not,” he explains. “This Stainless Steel rigging gear can be used on trawlers, fishing boats, fishing nets that attach and drag behind the boat, and the swing arm wiring as well. It lends itself to any marine type of application because it is strong, tough, and the stainless steel material used is marine grade and corrosion-resistant.”
In Tasmania, WebsterBSC are often working with customers in the fishing industry.
“Our guys in Tassie WebsterBSC are heavily involved in helping customers there with rigging. Fishing companies – particularly those with large fish farms – use a lot of rigging gear between their sites,” he elaborates. “Our Hobart staff frequently go out on site to these customers, to calculate and fit their rigging. They also certify and test. This is particularly important, as rigging equipment needs to be recertified periodically to remain compliant with occupational health and safety regulations.”
This is another reason why Titan products are a good fit for marine-based industries and applications – they’ve all been designed, manufactured and rigorously tested here in Australia to meet stringent standards.
“All our Titan Stainless Steel products are graded to the AISI 316. The AISI 316 graded stainless steel can be used in extremely harsh environments where there is a need for greater corrosion resistance – which is what our products have been designed for,” expands John Di Michele, General Manager for Titan Lifting Technologies. “Our products are often referred to as ‘Marine Grade’ for this reason, as they can withstand the environments typical to fishing and highly exposed coastal applications. They are also useful in a wide range of other food processing or manufacturing environments where hygiene and cleanliness are paramount.”
“As mentioned, our products are made with a higher-grade material so that you optimise their use and they can withstand the fatigue in harsh environments,” says John. “This makes them highly suitable to any applications where there is considerable moisture – such as the water or marine industries – or where washdowns are essential, such as in food and beverage sector.”
Other examples where Titan Stainless Steel products are used includes food processing.
“Our products are popular among meat work operations – where they require high quality stainless steel products that can meet food safety and hygiene regulations,” explains John. “Also, dairies or cheese factories often use our products for securing and holding lightweight equipment in place instead of normal steel products which would not be appropriate.”
Moreover, David says BSC and Titan will collaborate to ensure customers are given a fit-for-purpose solution. “BSC work together with Titan in the customer consultation to make sure that we are delivering a solution that will fully meet the customer requirements,” he stresses. “There are a lot of calculations involved when it comes to these SS products or lifting equipment in general, where you have to consider the size, load, counterweight, environment, fatigue and durability and so on.”
David reiterates that the partnership with Titan will bring new value to customers in the Paddock to Plate segment.
“Titan has such a high-quality range of products, and we enjoy collaborating with their skilled team – our collective engineering skills and understanding of client applications in this market segment will ensure we deliver to the specs and satisfaction of our clients. I’m proud that BSC is partnering with Titan Lifting Equipment to now have this product range available to our customers in the Paddock to Plate segment.”
The broad Titan range includes chain and lever hoists, as well as load restraint equipment such as lashing chain and hooks, ratchet straps, lifting chain and fittings, shackles, snatch blocks and wire cable products.
